more news... Inter Milan have started negotiations with Chelsea's Frank Lampard Peter Crouch looks set to return to Portsmouth six years after he left... Harry Kewell has joined Galatasary, even though Liverpool seemed to be denying it over the weekend... Arsharvin the Zenit St Petersburg player who lit up the Russian team at the Europeans looks set for Barca... and...Manchester United's assistant-manager Carlos Queiroz has hinted he may be about to leave the club to become the new manager of Portugal. In the meantime West Brom have prepared for the Premiership by spending fourpence ha'penny on a couple of minor league players, oh and one Dutchman - fair do's they paid five quid for him... well £3.2m apparently - I think premiership survival is probably as big an ambition as they can manage....next year Ronaldo with his new ankle... why would he slope off to Madrid when there is an offer and a hot pork sandwich available from the Hawthorns - let's face it, he'd actually have to go right past the Hawthorns on his way to Spain, he might as well drop in on the off-chance...

I think Crouch will do well at Pompy, maybe even making at regular National Team spot. And Lampard needs to stay in England, not a fan of Chelsea AT ALL but I think he is a great player and needs to stay in the EPL.

I have to agree, no great lover of Chelsea but I also think Frank should stay. Although it could solve the problem that Lampard and Gerard have when they play together... just leave Lamps out of the England squad and let Barry do the job, especially as Barry will be teaming up with Gerard next year at team level... Also agree about Crouch, he has not really looked right at Liverpool, he will do better at Pompey. Rafa Benitez has not covered himself in glory over the Barry affair as it drags on: www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2008/07/barry_saga_a_sorry_affair.htmlHe originally offered £10m and wanted other players included in the deal which O'Neill claimed actually valued Barry at about £2m. This whilst Rafa thinks he can sell Alonso for £16m and Barry is the one coming in to replace him... The point has been made: "O'Neill has seen Manchester United pay around £17m and £18m for Owen Hargreaves and Michael Carrick - an England duo ousted by Barry at international level - and wants a piece of that action himself." ...and the truth is that since Barry made the England squad Carrick has not had a look-in.

not exactly big news...but championship striker who was good in his day: Darren Huckerby is signing for the Earthquakes... Probably his heyday was at Coventry when he showed some real flair but a lack of consistency - on his day, he would run rings round anybody, sadly his days were all too seldom it seems. Latterly he has been plying his trade at Norwich in the Championship. I am sure he attracted the attention of England managers and I thought he may have made he squad once, but no caps as far as I can tell...

good info. I thought for a while he was surely going to TFC. I'm not too familiar with Huckerby so any info on him would be great...as this seems to be a big signing for SJ Earthquakes.

He was 'discovered' by Toronto, but apparently he didn't like the thought of playing on astro-turf.... I can only re-iterate that I thought he was a great player, but I think he was just a little inconsistent. I really don't know how he'll get on in the MLS - if he knuckles down to it he could be a good signing...

Its the Earthquakes we're talking here. I'm 100% sure he'll have an impact. You cant get any worse than what they've been playing. But in all seriousness, he will have to adapt to the slower pace game which might throw him off his rhythm, but he'll adjust.

I don't understand Man City, didn't Ronldohino already say he's not going to play in the EPL. What are they chances of him putting pin to paper at Manchester Stadium?

The consensus over here is that they would be nuts to sign a Ronaldhino who is apparently not really interested in playing football any more... But the owner has already proved he is nuts be sacking Sven - I can't believe that Mark Hughes would be interested thus proving that Taki(whatever his name is) is probably already disrespecting his new managers' wishes (which will not go down well). Mark Hughes is a down to earth mud and bullets footballer, he won't want to be spending millions on a Brazilian showman who is reportedly past his best and doesn't really care... aside from his showboating which is admittedly spectacular, when did you last see Ronnie take a game by the scruff of the neck and impose his presence???.. no I thought not...

you are right, I was wondering why Manchester City would go for Ronaldinho. They would have never landed him anyway. I don't know but is it a growing trend for top tier Brazilian players to "end" their careers in the Series A?

I don't think he would have liked the way we play football over here, he'll be happier in Milan....

Carson is heading from Liverpool/Villa to West Brom. This is a great deal for West Brom, since Carson does have EPL playing time I think the team will benifit from this transfer. I am tired of 2 out of 3 promoted teams heading back to the Championship every year. I think West Brom has done the best thus far in the transfer market to give the EPL a few good years.

Carson has also played for England and is a top goalie... I'm not convinced that we have done that well in the transfer market. West Brom last year scored more goals that anyone in ANY English league. Off-season we have lost Kevin Phillips (top goal scorer) and Zoltan Gera (most creative midfielder) and bought defenders and a goalie - we will have to change the whole way we played last season - don't know if we're ready for it.... Time will tell, I am starting to get quite excited, but don't have any great hopes for anything more than survival.

really when it down to it a newly promoted team should just look to survive the first season and make some cash that the EPL teams get, that way over two or three season they can better the team and start to challenge for the top 10.
