![](http://www.copanyc.us/images/copa.jpg) Copa NYC is an annual soccer tournament consisting of 16 "National Teams" assembled from a selection of participating communities from the New York area, representing their diverse cultural heritages. Each "Nation" will be represented by a team president, coach (or coaches), and a roster of 25 players, whose heritage they represent. Qualifying Knockout Round The 8 qualifying teams will be drawn at random to compete in a knockout round. Finals Weekend One The first weekend begins with a 24 game "round robin" tournament that will run throughout the first day (full details of the tournament will follow below). The second day of the tournament will involve the 8 winning teams from Matchday 1. The new New York Cosmos organization have acquired the Copa NYC tournament, and beyond running it every year in New York, they will be looking to expand it both domestically and internationally in order to engage more local communities to participate in the ‘global game’ at a grassroots level.

The tournament kicks off on July 9. The championship game is July 24. Cosmos Copa NYC is an amateur adult soccer tournament that celebrates the many diverse cultures and communities that make up New York City. Local “community all-star teams” across 30 countries went through Qualifying Weekend, whittling the field down to 16 teams.
