Lauren Cheney scored in the 61st minute and Hope Solo saved two penalties as the United States beat Iceland 2-0 on Wednesday in the opening round of the women's Algarve Cup. The Americans took the lead thanks to an own goal by Sif Altadottir, who deflected a Meghan Schnur cross into the net. Cheney broke clear a minute later and extended the U.S. advantage. Wambach, U.S. top Norway 2-1
Abby Wambach scored both goals as the United States beat Norway 2-1 in the Algarve Cup.
Wambach scored the opening goal in the 13th minute Friday when she ran to a pass from Lori Lindsey, beat a defender and fired a shot into the corner of the net.
Norwegian substitute Isabel Herlovsen evened it in the 61st with a glancing header past Nicole Barnhart.
Wambach scored the winner from close range in the last minute of injury time as the Americans made improved to 2-0 at the tournament in southern Portugal.
The U.S. plays Sweden on Monday in the last round-robin game before the final on Wednesday.

FERREIRAS, Portugal (March 1, 2010) – Second-half substitute Lauren Cheney scored two wonderful goals to lead the U.S. Women’s National Team to a 2-0 victory against Sweden in the final Group B match at the 2010 Algarve Cup.
The victory puts the USA into its eighth consecutive Algarve Cup final where it will face Germany, winners of Group A after a dominating 5-0 victory against China.
