Dec 15, 2009 - The LA Galaxy is set to make "a major player announcement" Wednesday afternoon in which it is expected Landon Donovan will confirm a loan deal to play for Everton of the English Premier League. It has hardly been a secret, as SB Nation's Daily Soccer Fix points out, saying, "unless something goofy happens, he’ll report on or around Jan. 2 and be eligible immediately at Goodison Park." Tim Howard hopes to see his friend arrive at Goodison and while Donovan made little impact during previous spells with Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich, the Everton 'keeper expects him to shine in England. "From playing with him in the USA team I know he is a tremendous player," Howard told the club's official website. "He'd be a good addition to any team and particularly this team. He is a star, he really is. "He is a friend but he is also a top-quality player and the more of those we can bring in the better. Donovan can bring several strengths to the team. He can play wide right and underneath the strikers, he has got good pace with the ball and he runs and runs all day long! "He's got a fantastic touch with both his left and right. He can cross the ball well and shoot the ball well - he has got a bunch of attributes that mean he'll do well in the Premier League."

Donovan, on a 10-week loan from Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy, scored in the 19th minute at Goodison Park with a left-footed shot off a headed pass from Tim Cahill, who headed in the first goal in the sixth minute. Donovan has signed a new contract with the Galaxy through 2013 and is scheduled to rejoin the team for its March 27 league opener, but a MLS work stoppage could start next week and prompt Donovan to try to extend the loan.

Donovan says sorry for horror miss
Landon Donovan issued an apology to his team-mates in the White Hart Lane dressing room after missing an open goal against Tottenham on Sunday.
The United States forward, who came on as a substitute, admits he cannot understand how he stabbed his finish wide after being picked out by Jack Rodwell at the far post.
"Landon said sorry to us afterwards," said midfielder Mikel Arteta.
Donovan came on to chase the game and earn Everton a draw to help their bid for a European place as they recover from a poor start to the season.
"This is just a really disappointing moment for me personally," Donovan, 27, said. "I've put a lot into my time here and another goal would have been a nice reward.
"I got myself in a good position at the back post and was hoping Jack was going to put the ball across goal. He did that and it came perfectly for me.

Arena says that Donovan will return to Galaxy on March 15CARSON, Calif. -- Los Angeles Galaxy head coach and general manager Bruce Arena said the club is not interested in extending the loan of Landon Donovan to Everton of the English Premier League, despite reports that the Toffees will pursue such an arrangement. Everton manager David Moyes was quoted by the Press Association in the United Kingdom as saying he was hoping to extend the loan which began Jan. 6 and is scheduled to end March 15. Donovan has played in eight games with Everton and has one goal and two assists. "I am keen to keep Landon," Moyes said. "In the main he has done a really good job for us. It is very rare you can bring in someone in January on loan who can make a real difference to you but Landon has. web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20100305&content_id=8690496&vkey=news_mls&fext=.jsp
