European World Cup teams to be seeded
Playoff berth: (4 comes out of group) France Russia Portugal Greece Ireland Bosnia Ukraine Slovenia
The eight teams will be seeded according to the Fifa rankings, the governing body's president Sepp Blatter said on Tuesday.
There will also be a separate draw to determine which teams play the second legs at home, Blatter told a news conference after a Fifa executive committee meeting in Rio de Janeiro.
"We have decided on seeding the teams into two groups of four, taking the Fifa world rankings into account, with the top four in one pot and the others in another pot," Blatter said.
"There will be a separate draw to decide home and away," he added of the two-leg ties to determine four European berths at the 2010 finals in South Africa.

ZURICH (AP) - France, Portugal, Russia and Greece will be seeded in the playoffs to decide the final four European spots at the 2010 World Cup.
They were the four highest-ranked of the playoff teams in the FIFA world rankings published Friday, meaning they cannot face each other in the two-legged playoffs on Nov. 14 and 18. Instead they will be paired against the four non-seeded teams - Ukraine, Ireland, Bosnia and Slovenia - with the draw to be announced Monday.
FIFA was criticized for waiting until last month before deciding to seed the playoffs

Reports: USA to face Slovakia in Nov. 14 friendly
The U.S. national team has yet to announce a second November friendly to go along with its match against Denmark, but reports out of Europe, including ones out of Slovakia, suggest that the Americans will take on Slovakia on Nov. 14.
Slovakian national team head coach Vladimir Weiss is quoted confirming the USA friendly in Slovakia, but U.S. Soccer would not confirm the friendly as of Friday afternoon.
Slovakia qualified for the World Cup after topping a qualifying group that included Slovenia, Czech Republic and Poland. The Slovak squad features several top European players, including Napoli star Marek Hamsik, Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel and qualifying scoring leader and VFL Bochum midfielder Stanislav Sestak.
