Bruce Arena: LA Galaxy are MLS "guinea pigs" after forming USL PRO side Galaxy II CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will serve as “guinea pigs” for the rest of MLS, head coach Bruce Arena said, by fielding a team this year in the USL PRO, and he fully expects the rest of the league to follow their lead. The Galaxy on Wednesday officially announced their USL PRO side, Galaxy II, and Thursday unveiled the schedule, which begins March 22 against the Orange County-based LA Blues, a fourth-year team in the third-division league. “I think it's great,” said Arena, who first revealed the plan last September, following LA's training session Thursday morning at the StubHub Center. “I think we've lacked the next step for our Academy players or players that are just outside the first team. "We've had a bit of a black hole on our development, and this makes everything natural – a natural progression from young players to the U-18s to the USL team to the first team. For those that need all those steps, which is a majority of players, it's a real positive for us.” www.reddit.com/tb/1wlm8q

Galaxy II Win Preseason Opener
Bowen, Mendiola on target in victory against PDL's Fuego LA Galaxy II News Release -- www.lagalaxy.comThursday, February 13, 2014 FRESNO, Calif. – First game and a first win for LA Galaxy II. Travis Bowen and Raul Mendiola scored while goalkeeper Cody Laurendi made five saves as the newly formed USL PRO side defeated the Fresno Fuego 2-1 on Saturday at Chukchansi Park in their inaugural match. "It was a really good exercise for us," Onalfo told LAGalaxy.com. "Any time you put on the Galaxy jersey, you want to win. From that standpoint, I was pleased, but there were some good things and a few bad things, but it is preseason. We're just nine days into the preseason and this is all part of the process. There's a lot that we can build on as we move forward." Galaxy II scored their first ever goal in the 11th minute when Bowen, the older brother of former Galaxy Homegrown Product Tristan, capitalized on a turnover by Fuego goalkeeper Beau Diaz and poked the loose ball into the net. Galaxy II continued to turn the screws on the PDL side as the half wore on, spearheaded by the influential play of LA Homegrown forward Jack McBean, who frequently tested the Fuego defenders. uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/787768.html

Galaxy II Fall Against Galaxy Keane has two goals as MLS squad takes 3-0 victoryLA Galaxy News Release -- www.lagalaxy.comSaturday, February 22, 2014 CARSON, Calif. – Robbie Keane scored a pair of goals and assisted another as the LA Galaxy blanked their USLPRO affiliate club LA Galaxy II 3-0 at StubHub Center. Just a week after returning to full training, the Galaxy captain scored twice in the first half and set up a goal for Samuel in the 69th minute to seal the win for the first team in the first annual White vs. Blue match. Keane wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as he received a header from Leonardo and then launched a shot from over 40 yards that caught Galaxy II goalkeeper Cody Laurendi way out of position. The Irishman appeared far sharper than he did in LA’s scrimmage against UCLA on Wednesday as he pulled the strings as the Galaxy turned up the screws on their USL counterparts. uslpro.uslsoccer.com/home/789889.html
