New England Revolution's Kevin Alston wins 2013 Comeback Player of the Year awardNEW YORK – Kevin Alston's abrupt departure from Major League Soccer in early April stunned his teammates, fans and players around the league, but the real surprise came with the speed he returned to the game. Alston was named the MLS Comeback Player of the Year in a landslide vote on Monday, fitting punctuation after the 25-year-old New England Revolution defender returned to the field less than four months after he was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), a rare but treatable form of leukemia. The award was voted on by media, MLS players and MLS club management based on regular season performance. Alston carried the vote among both club representatives and media members, and finished well ahead of the Philadelphia Union’s Conor Casey and Seattle Sounders’ Lamar Neagle in the final tally. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/12/02/new-england-revolutions-kevin-alston-wins-2013-comeback-player-year-award
