San Jose lock up Wondolowski to Designated Player deal after record-setting seasonThe San Jose Earthquakes announced Tuesday that the club has signed forward Chris Wondolowski to a new contract, making him the second Designated Player in club history. Per league and team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. Wondolowski, 30, is the reigning Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player after tying the league record for goals in a season with 27 in 2012. He has led the league in goals for three consecutive years, earning three MLS Best XI selections in the process. The two-time MLS All-Star is also the all-time league leader in goals per 90 minutes among players with at least 100 appearances with a 0.64 clip. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2013/02/26/san-jose-lock-wondolowski-designated-player-deal-after-record-setting-season

WWWondo returns Leading goal-scorer's brace lifts Quakes past Chivas USASANTA CLARA, Calif. -- San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski wasted no time reintroducing himself to the MLS and it came at the expense of Chivas USA. Wondolowski, coming off a sparkling run of five goals in the US men's national team's march to the Gold Cup championship, scored twice in his league return to lead the Quakes to a 2-0 victory Saturday night over a Goats team that was reduced to 10 men in the second half. They were the sixth and seventh league goals of the season for Wondolowski, who had not scored in MLS play since May 8, a drought of nearly 600 minutes. www.sjearthquakes.com/news/2013/08/recap-quakes-2-chivas-0
