Nick Sabetti: Impact look to continue history of Montreal dominance over TorontoThe Montreal Impact will take on Toronto FC Saturday at Olympic Stadium for the first time in MLS. A win is a must for both, but they also have something to prove. While the Montreal Impact will be locking horns with Toronto FC for the very first time in league play on Saturday, the soccer history between Montreal and Toronto, though an intermittent one, goes back forty years. And when it comes to soccer between the two metropolises, Montreal has been dominant. The numbers speak for themselves. Since 1971, Montreal and Toronto have played in the same soccer league 16 times. Of those 16 seasons, Montreal finished ahead of Toronto on 11 occasions. www.goal.com/en-us/news/1589/canada/2012/04/05/3016056/nick-sabetti-impact-look-to-continue-history-of-montreal

Impact's Marsch mulling over approach to final two gamesMONTREAL – With two games remaining and the playoffs out of sight, most clubs would be tempted to simply give minutes to hard-working players who have not received much playing time. That's not the case for the Montreal Impact, who were only eliminated from playoff contention last weekend. A heated derby with archrivals Toronto FC and a home curtain call against the New England Revolution lie ahead for the Impact and both matches are significant for next season. Montreal head coach Jesse Marsch admits that fielding a few of the seldom-used players this season has crossed his mind. “But we also have to make sure that we’re not cheating on what we’re doing this year,” Marsch told reporters on Wednesday. “It’s a delicate balance, and we’re going to figure out how we’re going to get through all that in the next couple of weeks.” Two objectives remain for Montreal: leaving a good impression on their supporters ahead of 2013, and capturing the first seed for next year’s Amway Canadian Championship. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/10/11/impacts-marsch-mulling-over-approach-final-two-games

See You Next Year Canadian rivals Toronto, Montreal draw 0-0 in 2012 BMO finaleIt’s been that kind of year at BMO Field. Toronto FC closed out their 2012 home campaign on Saturday afternoon with a 0-0 draw against rivals Montreal Impact, who were making their first-ever visit to Toronto in MLS regular season play. Goalkeeper Freddy Hall helped TFC hold on to their first league shutout since July 14 with a couple of key stops during a hectic series of stoppage time assaults on the Toronto goal. TFC were also helped by a lack of sharpness from Montreal’s attackers, a common theme that afflicted both sides in the scoreless match. While Toronto’s winless run reaches 13 matches, the expansion Impact moved closer to registering the best record by a Canadian team in MLS this year, which would give them the No. 1 seed in next year’s Canadian Championship. Despite their current five-game winless run, the Impact’s 42 points are on par with Vancouver, who are still battling for a playoff spot in the West. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2012/10/20/recap-toronto-hold-rival-montreal-0-0-draw-bmo-finale

Impact makes it three a row as team beats Torontowww.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/03/highlights-montreal-impact-2-1-toronto-fcMONTREAL – The Impact extends its unbeaten streak to start the season to three games, beating Toronto FC in its home opener 2-1 on Saturday, in front of 37,896 spectators at Olympic Stadium. Midfielder Patrice Bernier and forward Marco Di Vaio both scored their first goals of the season. The Impact scored its first goal of the season in the 34th minute when midfielder Andres Romero was taken down in the box, setting up another Patrice Bernier penalty kick. Bernier made no mistake, using his stutter step to beat goalkeeper Joe Bendik to his left. Bernier now is 7 for 7 in his career in MLS from the spot, finding the back of the net in his 30th career game in MLS. www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/03/match-report-impact-beats-toronto-fc-2-1-home-opener

Impact head coach Schällibaum - "Evan Bush can do the job against TFC"Although Impact head coach Marco Schällibaum likes to keep his cards close to his chest, he did reveal early on this season that with a loaded schedule during the Amway Canadian Championship tournament, keeper Evan Bush was going to start for the Canadian cup, beginning with the opening matchup next Wednesday versus Toronto FC. “With a lot of games, I have 20-22 players that I can count on,” said the Swiss coach. “You have to find that right mix to be competitive and well-rested before each game. That’s where Evan comes in. I have always been confident that he can do the job.” Bush signed with the Impact for MLS after playing with the club in its final season in the NASL in 2011, winning the Golden Glove for the league’s top goalkeeper. Last year, he made only one start www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/04/montreal-impact-marco-schallibaum-evan-bush-start-toronto-fc

TFC avenges Canadian Championship final loss with 2-0 win in Montreal The stage was set for rivals Toronto FC and the Montreal Impact to play in a jam-packed State Saputo. Coming off a 3-0 loss to DC, this was a must-win for Toronto, who is in the mix for a playoff position. They had to get a result without Defoe, who was a last minute scratch with a groin injury. Montreal on the other hand were looking to end the six game losing streak that got Nick De Santis out as Sporting Director. www.rednationonline.ca/Articles2014/TorontoavengesCanadianChampionshipfinallossw.aspx
