Impact U21 in full swing
Positive results against University teams with CSL season one month away [/B][/COLOR] With the MLS season in full swing, the Montreal Impact U21 team is still in the midst of preparing its 2012 upcoming season in the Canadian Soccer League (CSL), set to begin the first week of May. And just like the first team, the Academy is looking to take advantage of a long preseason in order to ensure the players’ continued development and a true understanding of the system the coaching staff is looking to implement. “The CSL season is a tool to help develop these young players, but it’s not the only one,” said the Director of the Academy Philippe Eullaffroy. “The league lasts only seven months of the year, but we work 11.5 months with these young players. The quality of the opposition is important, but the quantity is primordial. Therefore, we can’t just leave the U21s for five months without training or matches. This is why we play many games before the CSL season starts against good opponents, like University teams, to further their development.” www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/04/impact-u21-full-swing

The Impact U21 shut out Toronto FC Academy 1-0
Stefan Vukovic scores winner against former club MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact U21 team (2-0-3) remains undefeated this season, earning a shutout victory over Toronto FC Academy by a score of 1-0, Sunday, at the sports complex of St-Jean-Vianney College. Impact forward Stefan Vukovic, who was playing against his former club, scored the lone goal in the 48th minute, beating the TFC goalkeeper with a low shot that went cross side from inside the 18-yard box, finishing off a nice play by Zakaria Messoudi. “I am satisfied with the win, but a little less so in the way we played,” said Impact U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy. “We played a good first half without taking advantage of it. The courage and determination were better than our technique on the field. Defensively, we gave nothing away. I would have liked to see a little more from us but it’s always nice to beat Toronto.” www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2012/06/impact-u21-shut-out-toronto-fc-academy-1-0

Academy update: U21s unbeaten this winter
New opportunities for younger players The Montreal Impact Academy is well-represented this year at the preseason camp for the club’s pro team in Major League Soccer, but that means the U21 side has been forced to make changes. Not only has former U21 head coach Philippe Eullaffroy and Academy goalkeeper coach Youssef Dahha joined the first team’s coaching staff, but some of the U21s’ core group of players from last year are knocking on the door, including defender Karl W. Ouimette, who earned a contract midseason in 2012, along with midfielder Wandrille Lefevre, left-back Maxim Tissot and forward Mircea Ilcu. All three are showing well in Florida, while goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau, midfielder Zakaria Messoudi and forward Anthony Jackson-Hamel are with the Canadian U20 national team looking to qualify for the FIFA U20 World Cup. www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/02/academy-update-u21s-unbeaten-winter

Academy report: First road trip for Impact U21
Team faced Rhode Island University and UMass The Montreal Impact U21 team opened its 2013 season on the road with a draw and a loss this weekend, trying Rhode Island University 2-2 on Friday evening before falling 1-0 to the University of Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon. The game against Rhode Island saw the Impact create a number of scoring opportunities, resulting in two nicely executed goals by forwards Frédéric Lajoie (5’) and Anthony Jackson-Hamel (43') in the draw. The Impact then played a little too laidback in its matchup against UMass, especially in the first half, losing by a 1-0 score. “I enjoyed watching our team on Friday,” said Impact U21 head coach Wilfried Nancy. “Collectively, we were very consistent and coherent in our movement. However, against UMass we didn’t do enough against an opponent that was there for the taking. Our casual attitude was not the right one to have.” The Impact U21 will play its next game on the road against the University of Vermont on April 21 www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2013/04/academy-report-first-road-trip-impact-u21
