Teams will be able to select players who fall under the following circumstances: * Players who are at least 23 years old and have a minimum of three years of MLS experience whose options were not exercised by their clubs (available at option salary for 2012). * Players who are at least 25 years old with a minimum of four years of MLS experience who are out of contract and whose club does not offer them a contract at their previous salary (available at 2011 salary). * Players who are at least 30 years old with a minimum of eight years of MLS experience who are out of contract and whose club does not wish to re-sign them (available for at least 105 percent of their 2011 salary). Players who are not selected in the Stage 1 draft will be made available for the Stage 2 draft on Dec. 12. Clubs selecting players in Stage 2 will negotiate a new salary with any player not under contract. Teams also have the option of passing on their selection. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/10/20/mls-announces-re-entry-draft-set-dec-5-and-12

Alvarez, Mendes, Borman selected in Re-Entry Draft
![](http://www.mlssoccer.com/sites/league/files/imagecache/620x350/image_nodes/2011/12/mendes.jpg) Stage 1 sees veteran striker go to Chivas, RBNY lose a mainstayNEW YORK – League veteran Arturo Alvarez is on his way out of Real Salt Lake and the New York Red Bulls lost their final link to their days as the MetroStars thanks to Stage 1 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Monday. Alvarez and defenders Carlos Mendes and Danleigh Borman were the only players taken in the draft on Monday. Alvarez was selected by Chivas USA, while Borman will join the New England Revolution and Mendes heads from New York to the Columbus Crew. While Mendes joins the Crew roster immediately because the club has picked up his option, Alvarez and Borman have been offered bona fide contract offers by their prospective new clubs after their options were recently declined by their former ones. All other teams in the draft passed on the respective selections, perhaps with eyes fixed on Stage 2 of the process next Monday, Dec. 12, when teams can select remaining available players and begin negotiating with them on a contract for 2012. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/12/05/alvarez-mendes-borman-selected-re-entry-draft

Stage 2 of Re-Entry Draft highlighted by busy Galaxy MLS Cup champs reload; Revs, Rapids dive in for new talent ![](http://www.mlssoccer.com/sites/league/files/imagecache/620x350/image_nodes/2011/12/noonan.jpg) NEW YORK – The LA Galaxy were easily the most active team in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Monday, scooping up four new players and opting to try and re-negotiate with two of their own as they look to defend their MLS Cup championship in 2012. The New England Revolution also selected two players while trying to rebuild for next season, and the Colorado Rapids also picked two new pieces to the puzzle as they look to regain the form that led them to the MLS Cup in 2010. All teams who selected players in the draft on Monday now have seven days to make an offer to each player taken. All players who were not taken in the draft are now available to be negotiated with on a first-come, first-serve basis. No team was busier than LA, however, and no voice more prevalent on the league-wide conference call than manager Bruce Arena, who picked so many times that he quipped the Galaxy had taken Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi with their fifth-round pick before adding, “We’re exhausted.” www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/12/12/stage-2-re-entry-draft-highlighted-busy-galaxy
