Rapids, Smith part ways after rocky 2011 campaign 2010 Cup champs won't renew contract, on hunt for replacement Twelve months ago, the Colorado Rapids were on their way to the 2010 MLS Cup title. Now they’re on the hunt for a new head coach. On Monday afternoon, the club announced it has parted ways with Gary Smith after declining to renew the Englishman's contract. “After meeting with Gary, we decided it would be in the best interest of both parties to move in a different direction,” Rapids managing director Jeff Plush said in a statement. “We’d like to thank Gary for his many contributions to the Colorado Rapids organization. He was instrumental in the Rapids winning our first-ever MLS Cup last year, and we wish him nothing but the best as he explores new opportunities.” www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/11/07/rapids-smith-part-ways-after-rocky-2011-campaign
