Bob Bradley fired as US Men's Soccer coach For U.S. soccer fans, the scene was tough to watch: Archrival Mexico celebrating a Gold Cup victory on American soil, cheered on by a largely pro-Mexico crowd at the Rose Bowl. A little more than a month later, Bob Bradley has been fired as coach of the U.S. men’s soccer team. Bradley led the team to big moments during his tenure, including Landon Donovan’s heart-stopping goal to secure a place in the round of 16 at last year’s World Cup in South Africa and an unforgettable victory over Spain in 2009. But to some, the disappointing Gold Cup loss to a Mexico team that seems to be on the upswing was another sign that the U.S. team’s progress has stalled under Bradley. sports.yahoo.com/soccer/news?slug=ap-us-bradleyfired

Jurgen Klinsmann officially unveiled as US national team coach
German icon meets expectations with optimism, says "work to do" NEW YORK — A face already familiar in American soccer circles finally has received his close up, this time as the figurehead for the future of the sport in the United States. Jurgen Klinsmann, the German soccer icon who was named as Bob Bradley's replacement last Friday, was officially introduced as the new head coach of the US national team during a press conference on Monday. The 1990 World Cup winner, who has lived in the US for more than a decade, said he is facing his new challenge with both pragmatic and optimistic expectations. “Having lived here for the last 13 years and having known the US soccer environment for quite some time … there’s always been kind of this feeling around that maybe one day, I would get the opportunity to coach the US team,” Klinsmann said. “This is a big moment for me personally and for us as a family, and I’m really proud that I get that opportunity to be a part of the future of US Soccer.” www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/01/jurgen-klinsmann-officially-unveiled-us-national-team-coach

Klinsmann will take his time deciding on coaching staff
New US boss says he'll keep Reyna, Ramos, will confer with MLS coaches NEW YORK — With Jurgen Klinsmann now firmly in place as the new head coach of the US national team, one of the biggest questions left unanswered is how he’ll fill out the rest of his coaching staff. Klinsmann, who was introduced to the media in his new post on Monday, was understandably vague about how he’ll fill his staff, insisting that he’ll likely take a democratic approach that could include coaches from MLS and elsewhere. Current US assistant coaches Jesse Marsch, Lobos Cubic, Mike Sorber and Zak Abdel were not released upon Bob Bradley’s dismissal as head coach last week, but their status under the new coach is unclear. “I won’t confirm a full-time staff over the next couple of months, because I want to see what’s out there,” Klinsmann said. “There are a lot of good, highly qualified coaches in the US that I might not know. So I need to talk to people, I need to understand what’s out there.” www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/01/klinsmann-will-take-his-time-deciding-coaching-staff

On Sunday night, Egyptian paper Al-Ahram reported that Bradley would be in competition with former Montenegro manager Zoran Filipoviæ and former Trinidad and Tobago coach Francisco Maturana. However, an Egyptian federation spokesman indicated to MLSsoccer.com that the American was their first choice. "The president of the federation will meet with the coach this week," Egypt's national team press officer Azmi Megahed told MLSsoccer.com on Monday. "He is maybe the top contender." The spokesman revealed that the federation had been impressed with Bradley since his US side topped Egypt 3-0 in a do-or-die final group match at the 2009 Confederations Cup. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/08/bob-bradley-interview-be-egypt-manager
