MONTREAL – With a year to go before joining Major League Soccer (MLS), the Montreal Impact unveiled Wednesday the detailed plans for the expansion of the Saputo Stadium, with the stadium increasing from 13,034 to 20,341 seats. More than 7,000 seats will be added to the current stadium: 3,500 seats in a new West grandstand, 1,250 additional seats in the Southeast and Southwest grandstands (corners), as well as 1,000 additional seats in the East grandstand. Among the most notable changes, a roof will hang over the upper rows of each grandstand, for a total of 6,948 covered seats. The roof will therefore cover a third of all seats, making the new Saputo Stadium a covered, open-air stadium. “Today, we are presenting you a major league stadium for a major league city,” declared Joey Saputo president of the Montreal Impact and the Saputo Stadium. “This is a major step forward for soccer in Montreal and Quebec. This stadium will remain the main rallying point for soccer in the province. In 2012, all our season ticket holders will be able to find their place at Saputo Stadium in 2012. I would like to thank my family and the Quebec government for their involvement and continued support in this project.” www.impactmontreal.com/News/News.aspx?language=EN&ArticleID=1567 the blue area is new seating

EXPANSION OF SAPUTO STADIUM TO BEGIN IN SEPTEMBERMONTREAL - The Montreal Impact announced Sunday that the expansion of Saputo Stadium will begin in September. Following unsatisfying results regarding proposal bids, and in order to respect the 23M $ of public money, the organization will proceed in August to a second invitation to receive bids with modified technical specifications concerning the infrastructure. www.montrealimpact.com/News/News.aspx?language=EN&ArticleID=1686&Focus=0

montrealimpact.com/News/News.aspx?language=EN&ArticleID=1686"The time table for construction will be slightly modified. The new Saputo Stadium will be ready for the beginning of the 2012 summer, rather than in the spring. The Impact will then play a limited number of games at Olympic Stadium, including the home opener. "We had the option to start the season on the road or to look for an alternative,” added Joey Saputo. “We prefer to play a few matches at Olympic Stadium. We want all games to be an event, especially our first game in MLS in Montreal.” The club also confirmed that season ticket holders will receive preferential treatment at Olympic Stadium. All season ticket holders will get equivalent seats to their usual seats. "

Relocating the Big-O at Stade Saputo
One of the biggest challenges for engineers during the whole expansion project MONTREAL – The Montreal Impact and Broccolini Construction Inc. have successfully moved the Big-O, Friday morning, one of the biggest challenges for engineers during the whole expansion project. The 175-ton concrete structure known as the Big-O is an historic monument that was built in 1976 for the Montreal Olympic Games. It became a symbol for the international skateboarding community. The structure was moved 25 meters and will keep the same incline at its new location. “We understood when we first build the stadium that the Big-O was a huge deal to the skateboarders,” said Montreal Impact President Joey Saputo. “When we decided to expand the stadium, we had no choice but to put a big column in its location. We needed to move it to save it. Everyone in the project was pretty confident it could be done.” www.impactmontreal.com/en/news/2011/11/relocating-big-o-stade-saputo

With Big-O relocated, Saputo renovations can progress
Winter weather next challenge; Impact stadium to be ready mid-JuneThe next obstacle Garippo and his team will face is the weather. With winter just around the corner, the crew will have to pick up the pace before the temperature dips below freezing point. “The main challenge right now is to get as much done as we can”, Garippo admitted. “We know that we won’t be able to work with concrete come winter, but it doesn’t mean we’ll stop completely. We can still start setting up the steel structures during this time.” The plan for both Broccolini Construction Inc. and the Montreal Impact is to have Saputo Stadium ready by the start of the summer, which gives the fans a six-month period before they can attend an MLS game there. In the meantime, the Impact will play at Olympic Stadium. www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/11/26/big-o-relocated-saputo-renovations-can-progress
