USL CEO hints at FC Tucson promotion, talks league expansion USL Chief Executive Officer Alec Papadakis met with the media at Peoria Sports Complex prior to Arizona United SC’s match with Sacramento Republic FC Saturday night and revealed his plans to meet with FC Tucson officials today to discuss a possible jump to USL PRO. FC Tucson, which plays in the USL PDL (fourth division), is coming off its best season in club history, reaching the West Final before being eliminated by Kitsap Pumas. Papadakis was optimistic about FC Tucson’s chances of moving up, noting it would be good for United and an Arizona area that “has produced so many good players.” “It’s a very good possibility,” Papadakis said. “That would be a very nice rivalry.” Papadakis said any changes would happen “in the next season or two.” www.reddit.com/tb/2cnj8r

the need to address this expansion, United Soccer Leagues CEO Alec Papadakis was asked whether the 18-team field in place for 2015 could grow further. He noted that discussions with MLS could push the final number as high as 22 for next season. “That’s something that will be sorted out… actually next week because we are having a board of governors meeting and the MLS are having their meetings as well.” He emphasized that he wants to see Arizona United find its MLS partnership soon. www.reddit.com/tb/2cqssz

Dan Hunt reveals FC Dallas’ USL-Pro plans Yeah, we are in the final stages of having an affiliate for the 2015 USL Pro season. I won’t elaborate who it is out of respect for them and also the league. There’s just so many moving parts. Not only is there going to be a new labor negotiation coming up, but the league is kind of going into a soft landing in 2015, but we will have an affiliate. For us, we develop our own young players and this is a great way to get these kids meaningful games. I’ll point to Moises Hernandez’s development, when he went on loan these last two years, got those great games. You look and see what Victor Ulloa’s done this year and I’m so excited for both of them and obviously, Kellyn Acosta had a number of good performances last year and he had some before his injury, but we’re excited to get him back shortly. These guys just need games, so our path is to have an affiliate for 2015 and it’ll be somebody that is a very likeminded group, so we feel good in trusting our players to them. And then, our goal is to have our own team in 2016. We’re working out those details. soccerblog.dallasnews.com/2014/08/dan-hunt-reveals-fc-dallas-usl-pro-plans.html/
