This is the only way forward for the MLS to gain respect in the soccer world: Remove Salary Cap Get some MAJOR names to play alongside the likes of Beckham Get some competition for the broadcasters who want to show soccer on TV - this generates the capital to pay the big names (the teams share the proceeds of the broadcast rights) This is the EPL model - so be warned, the home grown players will end up getting squeezed out- that's the price you pay... great points. I think US players will be wanting to play in europe anyway.

look, I know everyone hates the salary cap, but in the States its never going to go away. Every sport here has it, thats the American business model. For right now all we can do is ask that they raise it........ALOT!

Whats the current Salary Cap. You have to see what the player's asking price is. Then raise it accordingly. But in my opinion they should remove it in the future.

As long as they don't want to compete in the World market, it's fine to have a salary cap, realistically though players will go where the wages are highest. No other country of any note plays basketball, american football or baseball, so you can salary cap those sports in the knowledge that the players won't be going anywhere...
